Nodulocystic acne is a complicated form that one must not attempt to treat themselves. A symptom here is formation of cysts that may be single or all over neck, face, scalp, shoulders, chest back etc. These cysts may be several centimeters wide and may cause pain and can arise from a nodular or poplar acne lesion. A physician should be referred to drain pus from the cysts as doing it ourselves may cause complications of scarring and infection as sterile conditions are a must here. The target here is to melt the cyst and hence the best treatment for severe acne of this type is combination of isotretinoin and antibiotics, or intralesional corticosteroids. The treatment will require 3-5 days. At times the larger cysts may require surgical drainage and they may not respond to medications.

The next kind of severe acne, i.e. Gram-negative folliculitisi is caused by bacterial infection. It is a follical inflammation of its own kind. The blue stain which is used to detect the microscopic organisms in library is what the gram refers to here. The negative test is when it is not blue. Isotretinoin and antibiotics is best treatment for severe acne. Years are invested in treatment for severe acne scars and in such times of trial, loved ones should be there to encourage the patient and keep up their spirits.
